PARENT INVOLVEMENT

Parents can play many roles in sports: current or former athlete, coach, fan, motivator, role model or critic. A few studies have shown that family members may influence an athlete’s involvement and achievement in sport more than coaches. Parents also are the first and most critical agents for socializing sports.


Communications Overview

 "How can both parents and their athlete(s) receive the same notifications all while maintaining ownership of their own accounts."

We're continually monitoring and improving our platform to account for all family structures and scenarios, and this is a topic that we come across quite often. At this time and stage on our platform, each parent can (and should) have their own SportsEngine Accounts. These accounts can be created here and the Primary Email Addresses on file must be unique, as an email address can only be used for one SportsEngine account at a time. From here, traditionally one of the two parents uses their account to sign up on behalf of their athlete, this initially creates a sub-profile for that athlete on that parents' account. If the athlete already has a sub-profile created, the parent can select that profile to signify who they are registering for on the registration session's "Who Are You Registering?" page. Then, on a parent's account in their "Household" tab, this parent can click on the profile for this athlete and add a Guardian for the other parent, or whoever else should receive notifications as a Guardian for this player. With this method, if the athlete would like to log onto the website or app to see notifications for themselves, they would need to use their parent's login information.

In the instance where an athlete is 13 years or older and they would like to have their own account and also would like both parents to receive notifications as well, they can simply go ahead and create their own account. Then, the parent who has this child existing as a profile in their household would add this new account as a guardian to the already-existing player profile in their household.

Parents and athletes need to manage their SportsEngine accounts to ensure they get the most out of their Lady Vipers Lacrosse Club experience during each sporting season. With their accounts properly configured, athletes and their families will receive communications according to their preferences and be able to complete registrations more efficiently.  SportsEngine has created a Team Management Guide for Parents and Athletes that will help our members with frequently asked questions about our website and mobile app.

ESSENTIAL PARENT HOW-TO'S

Adding an Additional Guardian

In many instances, more than one parent or guardian needs to be in the loop with a child's sports life. Using the mobile app or on a PC, you can add additional guardians to an account. Guardians can 1) View games and events 2) RSVP to games and events 3) Send and receive messages to coaches and team members 4) participate in team chat.  If you want your daughter to respond to their own RSVPs, you will similarly set them up as guardians of their own profile.

Forwarding Athlete Messages

Do you need a second parent, other family member or nanny to get messages about schedule changes or game times? Add a second email address to forward all communications.  This method does not allow the capabilities of a guardian such as RSVP'ing or emailing other team members.

Adding a Mobile Phone

Once you've created your account, add your mobile phone so you can receive text messages from your team manager or coach.

Enabling Text Messaging

Now that you have your mobile phone on your account, make sure you enable text messaging and any other notifications.

Dibs Online Volunteer System

Lady Vipers Lacrosse will be using the Dibs system to manage volunteer opportunities.  Most help will be needed on home game days but other openings occur with Homecoming Parade, team dinners, football concessions, Senior night, and end of season Banquet.  Each family will be expected to commit 10 hours this season.

You can sign up for shifts through Dibs on the website only.  The SportsEngine mobile app is not yet equipped with this feature.

  1. Log in using the same account you used for registration
  2. Click on the Dibs menu link
  3. Select a Dib Session 
  4. Click on the Dibs Item you would like to claim.  Be sure to scroll to the 2nd page if present.
  5. Click the "Claim this Dib Item" button

Once a shift is claimed, it can be cancelled up to 7 days prior to the time of the shift.  Once within 7 days, it will be your responsibility to find a replacement to work for you.
